Fantasy Golf Preview – Scottish Open 2016

Phil Mickelson is bidding for a second Scottish Open title this week but will you be selecting the American in your fantasy team?

That is just one of the tough decisions facing managers in the Today’s Golfer Fantasy Golf game ahead of the tournament at Castle Stuart.

Managers have a £100m budget to spend on their ten-man team and here’s a look at the recent winners:

2015 – Rickie Fowler -12

2014 – Justin Rose -16

2013 – Phil Mickelson – 17 (Playoff)

2012 – Jeev Milkha Singh – 17 (Playoff)

2011 – Luke Donald -19 (54 holes)

Top five fantasy picks this week…

1: Henrik Stenson (£14.5M)

Stenson leads the bookies markets and has a good chance of winning his 19th title, making him a wise choice for managers. Last time out he picked up the BMW International Open title and we are backing him to take that form to Castle Stuart.

2: Branden Grace (£14.5M)

It is safe to say that Grace is a Links specialist and comes to Scotland in good form having managed a 5th place finish at the US open and a 10th place finish at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. A safe bet for a good finish.

3:  Phil Mickelson (£13.5M)

This is the American’s 14th appearance in the tournament and after his success in 2013 we think it makes sense to include him in your team.

 4: Thorbjorn Olesen (£9.5M)

The Dane did well at the BMW International two weeks ago and while he is very much a long shot, it is certainly wise to include him and it could just pay dividends.

5: Jamie Lovemark (£6.5M)

His chances might not be great but at just £6.5M the 28-year-old is a tactical choice who is currently ranked 88th in the world and you never know…
