Jason Day received on course treatment for a back injury during the first round of the Masters

Jason Day had barely made it to the second hole before he sought out medical treatment for his back during the first round of the Masters on Thursday.

After hitting his drive on the par-five second, Day received medical treatment on his back by the tee box, having reportedly reinjured it after picking up his daughter prior to the start of his first round.

Last month, Day withdrew from the Arnold Palmer Invitational after six holes with a back injury, admitting that an MRI revealed he had an annular tear in his disc, as well as ‘set problems’.

Day did decide to keep playing and went on to make birdie on the second, and battled his pain well: Despite visibly struggling to walk properly, he rolled in more birdies on the eighth, 13th and 16th holes to get to three-under-par. A disappointing three-putt bogey on 17 left him at two-under, but Day made his par-putt on the last to end up tied for 11th – four shots behind Koepka and DeChambeau.

It is unclear how serious the issue is, but he was in obvious discomfort and his management told officials that he wouldn’t talk to media after his round.
