RANDALUCIA VALDERRAMA MASTERS: BETTING TIPS

Sergio Garcia: 13/2
Garcia has struggled in the past month (4 MC in six starts) or so after a string of top 10s at the start of the year – but there’s a reason why he’s the joint favourite this week. He’s won three of the four times this event has been staged here, was a three time runner-up in the Volvo Masters at Valderrama, and finished T3 in the Open de Espana when the tournament was staged at this course in 2016. The defending champion will be hoping to make it four titles in a row with a bounce back win, and ranks 1st for GIR, 5th for SG: Tee to green and 8th for scoring average on the European Tour this season.

Jon Rahm: 13/2
The world No.11 finished T3 at the US Open in his last start – which was his eighth top 10 of the year. The last time he teed up at Valderrama he missed the cut, but he’s definitely in form. Ranks 5th SG: Off the tee, 11th birdie average and 16th for scoring average on the PGA Tour this year.

Matthew Fitzpatrick: 10/1
An agonising playoff loss to Pavan last week was his second runner up finish of the year – the other coming at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and followed a T12 at the US Open. Ranks 2nd on the European Tour for scoring average, 4th for birdie average and 13th for both SG: Putting and SG: Around the green

Joost Luiten: 16/1
Despite going T64-T62-MC in his last three starts, there has been pockets of excellent play this year for Luiten, and Valderrama is somewhere he’s had quite a bit of success. T11 In this event last year but 2nd in 2017 and 2nd in the 2016 Open de Espana. Ranks 2nd SG: Tee to green, 6th GIR and 9th SG: Approach.

Mike Lorenzo Vera: 25/1
Has only played nine events this year but has two top 10s and a T16 in his last start at the PGA Championship. Might be a bit rusty after over a month off, but was T6 when he last played at Valderrama in 2016. Ranks 29th scoring average.

Julian Suri: 33/1
Back to back MC on Tour after run of T4-T2-T19, but Suri is returning to Valderrama, where he was T8 in 2017 in his one and only start at Valderrama. Ranks 3rd SG: Off the tee, 12th SG: Tee to green, 29th birdie average and 34th scoring average this season.

Matthias Schwab: 35/1
May not have played at Valderrama before on the European Tour at least,  but does have two top 10s in his last three starts – including a T3 at last week’s BMW International Open – and is searching for his maiden Tour title. Ranks 21st SG: Around the green, 28th for scoring average and 31st for SG: Approach.

Ashley Chesters: 50/1
Chesters was T21 last week, and performed well at Valderrama to a 4th place finish last year. Has a best all year of T9. Ranks 9th for driving accuracy, 19th for GIR.

Richie Ramsay: 66/1
Ramsay always talks about how much he loves playing Valderrama, and his results show why, having been T11 last year and 3rd in 2011. MC last week but T12 in Denmark and 5th at the British Masters a few weeks ago.

Edoardo Molinari: 100/1
After a T3 finish last week, Molinari at 100/1 seems like a good each way bet to me. Sure, it was his only result of the year inside the top 25, but he’ll be hoping to carry over that momentum to a place where he finished T22 last year.

Alejandro Canizares: 125/1
In four trips to Valderrama Canizares has four top 25s, with a best of . The Spaniard missed his last two cuts in a row but was T9 at the Made in Denmark so is still worth keeping an eye on.
