Migliozzi wins Belgian Knockout

Guido Migliozzi claimed his second European Tour title of the season after defeating Darius van Driel in the final of the Belgian Knockout.

Migliozzi put on a dominant display throughout the second edition of the Belgian Knockout, and continued that run of form until the end, with a four shot victory in the final against Van Driel.

“I’m feeling very good,” he said afterwards. “I managed very well this afternoon, all the shots.

“It’s been great playing like this with such great players. I’m playing solid and I will try to continue this quality in the future.”

The Italian, who gained his tour card last November, finished in tied 11th place after the first two rounds of strokeplay at six-under-par to set up a first match against Pedro Oriel in their half of the draw.

He quickly dispatched of the Spaniard with a three shot victory, and then took out defending champion Adrian Otaegui with a win by six, before outlasting Scotland’s David Law in the round of 16 by one shot.

From there, Migliozzi beat Bernd Wiesberger in the last eight by one and Ewan Ferguson by three in the semi-finals to book his spot against van Driel.

He got off to the perfect start with a birdie on the first from 10 feet, but handed a shot back a chance when he three-putted the third to move back to level-par – the same as van Driel.

But everything started to change in momentum at the fifth, when an up-and-down birdie from Migliozzi and an error from van Driel gave him a two shot lead with three to play.

A further mistake from van Driel saw him miss the green at the par three sixth and fall back to one-over and three shots behind, and while they matched birdies at the following two holes, another dropped shot at the last ensured Migliozzi’s victory by four.

The victory moves Migliozzi to 21st on the Race to Dubai Rankings Presented by Rolex, into the top 100 on the Official World Golf Ranking, and makes him the second 2018 Q School graduate to win twice on the 2019 Race to Dubai after Kurt Kitayama.
