Rocket Mortgage Classic: TV Times, Betting Tips

The Rocket Morgage Classic is making its debut on the PGA Tour this week as it replaces the Quicken Loans National. Here’s what you need to know.

Taking place in Detroit this week, the Rocket Morgage Classic makes it’s first appearance in a joint debut on Tour with Detroit Golf Club.

Detroit Golf Club has two courses, the North and South, and they are using a combination of both – 17 holes of the North and one of the South – to make a course of 7,309 yards for this week’s event.

The historic club, founded in 1899 with courses designed by Donald Ross, has been vying for a spot on Tour for years, and had already made a lot of the adjustments required to turn it in to a place that can host the best players in the game.

World No.2 Dustin Johnson headlines the field, with U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland, Rickie Fowler and last week’s winner Chez Reavie also in the field.

So who should you back this week?

Rocket Morgage Classic: Betting Tips

Dustin Johnson: 11/2
The World No.2 is the highest ranked player in this week’s field. Has gone T30-T45 in his last two starts but also has two victories and seven further top 10s this year alone, so it’s a no brainer why he’s the favourite here. Ranks 3rd for scoring average, 2nd SG: Tee to green, 3rd SG: Off the tee and 18th for both birdie average and GIR.

Rickie Fowler: 10/1
Fowler was T43 at the US Open, but two top 10s and two further top 20s in his previous six starts, he’s definitely not one to rule out. Earned his fifth PGA Tour win at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and ranks 13th for scoring average and 19th for SG: Putting.

Gary Woodland: 12/1
The U.S Open champ is teeing up for the first time since claiming his maiden major, one of two top 10s in his last three starts – the other a T8 at the PGA Championship. This season, he ranks 1st for birdie average, 8th for GIR and SG: Tee to green, and 16th for scoring average.

Hideki Matsuyama: 12/1
There’s not been a huge amount of chat about Hideki this year, but he’s playing better than many have credited him for: Since a T3 at the Farmers at the end of January, Matsuyama hasn’t finished worse than T33 in 12 starts, which includes four top 10s. Ranks 4th SG: Approach the green, 5th SG: Tee to green, 14th for birdie average and 15th for scoring average.

Chez Reavie: 22/1
Reavie ended an 11 year winless drought last week, but it felt like it had been coming. It came off the back of a T3 at the US Open, and he had two further top 20s in two of his previous three starts. Ranks 1st driving accuracy, 18th SG: Approach the green and inside the top 25 on Tour for both SG: Tee to green and scoring average.

Billy Horschel: 25/1
Horschel followed up a T9 at Memorial with a T32 at the U.S Open, and has missed just one cut in the last 12 months on Tour.

Kevin Streelman: 40/1
Three top 10s in his last six starts on Tour, as well as a T15 at last week’s Travelers Championship. Ranks 26th SG: Off the tee, 28th SG: Tee to green.

Joaquinn Niemann: 45/1
Hit the ground running when he first turned pro, and although he struggled for a while looks to be back on an upward trajectory once more, having finished T5 at the Travelers Championship last week, with three consecutive top 31s before that. Top 35 on tour for SG: Tee to green and SG: Approach the green.

Sunjae Im: 45/1
Im finished T7 at the RBC Canadian Open a few weeks ago, which was his fourth top 10 of the year after impressive performances at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Valspar Championship and Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. Has a lot of potential, was T21 last week. Ranks inside the top 30 for scoring and birdie average, and inside the top 40 on Tour for SG: Off the tee, SG: Tee to green and SG: Around the green.

Alex Prugh: 125/1
With a T21 at the US Open and T20 at last week’s Travelers, 125/1 feels like great odds for Prugh this week – but they are his best results since gaining his PGA Tour card . Ranks 11th for GIR, and 21st for SG: Off the tee.
