LIV’s opening two events, at Centurion Club and Pumpkin Ridge, have both been won by South Africans with Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace taking the titles.

Once again the players are competing for a $4m first prize in New Jersey, with an overall purse of $25m up for grabs.

And the 48 players will form 12 four-man teams, with a $5m prize pot shared between the top three at this week’s event. Stinger GC, made up of Louis Oosthuizen, Schwartzel, Grace, and Henni du Plessis, won the first event, with 4 Aces GC, consisting of Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Talor Gooch, and Pat Perez, taking the honours last time out.

LIV Golf’s format means every player will be on the course at the same time with groups heading out in threes and a shotgun start in place. Players are drawn together for the opening round before being grouped based on their positions on the leaderboard for rounds two and three.

Unlike traditional golf tournaments, which are played over 72 holes (four rounds), LIV events are only played over 54 holes (three rounds), hence the name LIV, which is roman numerals for 54. They are still strokeplay events.
