Compress your irons

The goal with an iron in your hand is to apply a downward blow on the ball, compressing the ball into the turf allowing the natural loft on the club to work.

Often, as TG Elite Teaching Pro Gareth Johnston explains in this video tip, amateur golfers have a tendency to back away from the target in the downswing, resulting in the clubhead working upwards as it strikes the ball.

Try the downswing feeling Gareth explains here and you’ll soon start hitting your irons longer and straighter than ever before.
