New Cleveland Wedges

Cleveland Golf have long been a leading name in the world of wedges and 2013 is further proof that when it comes to year on year innovation in wedge design, Cleveland are out in front.

The ever popular 588 wedge series will continue into next season after Cleveland Golf announced it’s new line up of 588 RTX wedges, and the groundbreaking technology behind them, that is sure to separate them from the competition.

Dubbed as the new face of spin, 588 RTX Wedges combine the legendary performance of 588 with Cleveland Golf’s latest technology breakthrough, the Rotex Face.

The Rotex face is a directionally milled face pattern that adds roughness and imparts maximum spin on open-face wedge shots where the impact tends to be closer to the toe.

In addition to this, Cleveland 588 RTX wedges feature a more durable and advanced form of laser milling. This advanced surface roughness technology is now more durable and dimensionally optimized for even more friction at impact. This helps generate even more spin on chips, pitches and partial shots from any lie.

Adding an extra level of milling to the face through the Rotex Face technology increases friction upon impact with the ball to give golfers added control around the greens.

Another key area in which the Rotex face aids golfers is that it has 16% larger grooves that have been developed closely with the help of Cleveland Golf’s tour players.

The U-Grooves on the new Rotex face are more precise and 16% larger to maximise spin on critical scoring shots – especially out of the rough, sand and in wet conditions.

588 RTX wedges also feature Cleveland Golf’s S Sole design. Inspired by the CG15 wedge, it is designed to have a wider sole width near the heel, narrow sole width near the toe. This has been designed to improve bunker performance without sacrificing versatility in other areas of the short game.

The 588 RTX also comes in cavity back version with the 588 RTX CB. According to Cleveland Golf, this model is aimed at golfers looking for a slightly more forgiving and easier to hit wedge, but who still want the legendary performance of a 588 wedge.

The 588 RTX CB wedge features the same 16% larger U-Grooves and Rotex face technology of the 588 RTX but the undercut cavity promotes perimeter weighting for more forgiveness on off-centre hits.

588 RTX CB wedges also differ to the 588 RTX with its reverse C Sole design. Inspired by Cleveland Golf’s popular CG14 and CG16 wedges, it is a wide, constant-width sole combined with heel and toe grinds to improve performance from bunkers and deep rough.

Both 588 RTX and 588 RTX CB wedges are fitted with the True Temper Dynamic Gold shaft and are available in the popular Satin Chrome and Black Pearl finishes for £109.

The 588 Forged wedge as used in 2012 by tour players such as Keegan Bradley and Graeme McDowell will continue in the range going forward and will be supplemented by the 588 Forged RTG wedge.

The 588 Forged RTG wedge is aimed at the more experienced golfer. Available in a Raw Tour Grind model, it features a dynamic sole for maximum versatility around the green. This wedge maintains the legendary, tour-proven shape of 588 with incredible Precision Forged feel.

Material reduction on the back of the Dynamic Sole Grind allows players to open the face with a lower leading edge for better contact on open-faced shots. The 588 Forged RTG is available in an Oil Quench finish that will rust over time for an authentic look.

Forged from 1025 carbon steel the 588 Forged RTG wedge offers an incredibly soft, yet solid feel around the greens with maximum control thanks to the laser milling and Tour Zip Grooves of the 588 Forged wedges for just £119.

An added bonus on top of Cleveland’s wedge range is that all of Cleveland’s custom-fit carts will carry all the parts needed to create the perfect wedge to suit your game. Currently, Cleveland Golf is the only manufacturer to offer wedges as part of the custom fit cart.
