Apr2 Westwood London Golf Show

Published:

Ryder Cup hero Lee Westwood will be the first person to enter the 2008 London Golf Show as he formally opens its doors on April 25.

The 34-year-old has enjoyed an impressive return to form in the last year, re-establishing himself in the world’s top 20, and will be taking time out from his busy playing schedule to look around the show and speak to fans.

Westwood, who currently heads the Ryder Cup points list for the European team, is an ambassador for Your Place Abroad’s new Fairways Living brand, and will be signing autographs and posing for photos on the company’s stand.

Fairways Living showcases a collection of property developments based on and around golf courses from Canada to the Caribbean as well as some of Europe’s most established golf destinations.

Westwood himself has purchased a property on the El Barancco development at Amarilla Golf, in Tenerife.

As well as meeting and chatting to fans, Westwood will also be talking to the BBC who will be interviewing him on the show’s stage.

After dropping from world number four to outside the top 250, Westwood won twice last year at the Valle de Romano Open de Andalucia and at the Quinn Direct British Masters to cap an impressive return to form.

As a wildcard pick in the 2006 Ryder Cup, Westwood justified the confidence captain Ian Woosnam had in him by becoming the joint-top scorer, with four points, firmly underlining his credentials as one of the world’s leading players.

Andy Barwell, managing director of the Golf Show Group, said: “Lee is one of the country’s most recognisable golfers and his presence will create a real buzz around the show.

“He’s once again at the very top of his game and going to be one of Europe’s biggest hopes in this year’s Majors and we’re delighted he’s been able to take time out to come and take in the show.”

The London Golf Show – Europe’s premier public golf show – returns to ExCeL from April 25-27, 2008, bringing with it the iconic floating green; Europe’s biggest golf retail area courtesy of american golf; hundreds of exhibitors showcasing the best in equipment, fashion, golf holidays and much more.

There will be putting greens, interactive competitions and an indoor driving range on which to try out the new equipment before buying in addition to dozens of great prizes up for grabs.

This year there will also be free flights to win in pre-show competitions with the event’s official airline partner Monarch.

Advanced tickets are two for £15 and all visitors get free entry to A Place in the Sun Live, taking place at ExCeL the same weekend. And, what’s more, under-13s go free when with an adult.
