Apr7 Woods final group

Tiger Woods finds himself in familiar territory on Sunday – in the final group of the 2007 Masters.

He will tee off at 7.15pm UK time going for a fifth Green Jacket – and a first Major victory when coming from behind.

But it’s the last place he expected to be after bogeying 17 and 18 for the second day in a row to finish the day with a 73 and three-over.

Two men looked likely to usurp the world number one from the last group, Justin Rose and local hero Vaughn Taylor.

But both dropped shots late in their rounds – Rose on 17 and Taylor on 17 and 18 – to hand Woods an unexpected bonus.

Woods said: “It was a tough day with the wind. You’d hit quality shots and just get absolutely hosed. You need to get lucky with the wind.

He would have had the outright lead on his own as he approached the 17th tee with one of the best rounds of the day underway.

But he pulled his tee shot into the trees and tried to carve a huge cut onto the green, He wnded up in a bunker and couldn’t get up and down.

Then, on 18, he nailed his drive to leave just an 8-iron in, but the wind knocked it well short of the green and again he failed to make par.

Woods added: “The finish was very frustrating. I made a mistake at 17 by not playing long, playing into the gallery or playing 40 yards over the green – it’s an easy pitch coming back there.

“On 18 I hit an 8-iron but the wind switched – I just got the wrong gust at the wrong time.”

Woods will go out in the final group with Stuart Appleby at 5.15pm UK time.
