Harrington wins Golfer of the Year

Padraig Harrington has won the European Tour Golfer of the Year award for the second year running.

The Irishman fully deserves the honour following another great year as he retained the Open Championship, won the USPGA and finished second in the Order of Merit after playing just 14 events.

The 37-year-old held off strong competition from Robert Karlsson who topped the Order of Merit.

This accolade comes in the wake of Harrington also winning the Shot of the Year award for his majestic 5-wood at the 17th on his way to winning The Open at Royal Birkdale.

Despite another wonderful season, Harrington is refusing to rest on his laurels: “I have some serious gym work to do in my winter break and I also have some swing changes to make.

“When I come out next year I will be focused on getting my game ready for every week and building up for the Masters tournament at Augusta National.”
