Jan 12 Sawgrass

Florida’s famous Sawgrass course has just reopened after a $50 million, eight-month revamp.

The work has been done to make the course run firmer and faster for the Players’ Championship in May.

Over 20,000 tonnes of earth has been removed from the fairways and greens, and replaces by sand to improve drainage.

But perhaps the most noticeable change is the grand new clubhouse, which dwarfs the old building.

The 77,000 square-foot Mediterranean-style clubhouse is due to open in late April 2007, though the course is already open for play.
