After getting married a couple of weeks ago, Luke Donald is looking to hand himself the perfect wedding present… with back-to-back wins in Scotland.

Donald returns to the fray in the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond and, of course, The Open at Carnoustie next week and he admits: “After getting married a couple of weeks ago, I’m really refreshed and looking forward to getting back into it again.

“It was a really nice break,” said Donald who wed college sweetheart Diane Antonopoulos on the idyllic Greek island of Santorini though it’s not clear whether the bridegroom went in for the traditional Greek wedding act of plate-smashing.

He added: “It’s been a pretty solid year for me so far with a lot of top 10 finishes – unfortunately I’ve just been unable to cross the finishing line to secure my first win of the season.”

Donald meanwhile will go to Carnoustie in a relaxed if not-too-confident mood, pointing out: “I’ve not really played that great in The Open – in fact I missed my first five Open cuts! I haven’t really mastered the art of playing links golf though I’m getting there. I’m getting closer.”

Donald had a good session on the Loch Lomond range today but there was still no sign of Colin Montgomerie and Phil Mickelson – the latter apparently was getting in a much-needed practice round at Carnoustie. However, the dynamic duo are both expected to line up in tomorrow’s Pro-Am…
