Open Prize Money

The winner of this year’s Open at Carnoustie in Scotland will walk away with a cool £750,000. Not bad for four days work!

The total prize money for the event has just been finalised and will be £4,2million – that’s £200,000 up on last year’s tournament at Hoylake, near Liverpool.

Therw will be 156 playersbattling for the massive cash prizes when the event starts on July 19.

Peter Dawson, Chief Executive of the R&A – who run The open, said: “This increased prize money reflects our goal of maintaining the position of The Open Championship at the forefront of world golf.”

The top 10 finishers will receive the followingL
1st – £750,000
2nd – £450,000
3rd – £290,000
4th – £220,000
5th – £180,000
6th – £157,000
7th – £134,000
8th – £112,000
9th – £100,000
10th – £88,000

The player who finished last gets £2,100.

When The Open was last played at Carnoustie – in 1999 – the prize fund was £2million with winner Paul Lawrie getting £350,000.
