South African colossus Ernie Els says he is confident of maintaining his recent good form at this week’s Bridgestone Invitational, after insisting “I’m ready to win”.

Els finished in a tie for third at the Open Championship and was in the top four a week earlier at the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond.

Speaking on his own website, the three-time Major winner, said: “Coming off a couple of good performances in my last two tournaments, I feel for the first time in ages that I have some good momentum coming in here. It’s a good feeling to have again.”

The 37-year-old was in contention in the Ohio event this time last year, but blew his chances after a poor final-round display.

“Last year I got myself into contention, but I had a bad day at the office on Sunday, which was very disappointing. Anyway, I just want to play some solid golf in the first couple of rounds and put myself in a position to win. I’m ready to win.”
