Jun12 TG at Oakmont

The crowds are gathering; the press room is buzzing; the players are looking for their balls out on the course… Welcome to the 2007 US Open.

I have just arrived at Oakmont for the season’s second Major, to bring you live coverage of the event for todaysgolfer.co.uk throughout the week.

To give you a taste of this great event, pictured are several stars captured in the middle of their vital practice rounds, including red-hot favourite, Tiger Woods, and good outside bets Jim Furyk and Padraig Harrington.

That means regular updates from the course, pictures you won’t see anywhere else, player interviews, facts and stats and downloadable audio coverage from the press conferences.

All the buzz surrounding the event is about the course – and whether it will be the toughest Major in history.

The rough is deep, the greens are firm, the fairways narrow… it’s all shaping up to punish the world’s best players severely for even the slightest wayward shot.

Other big questions we’ll bring you answers to include:

  • Whether Phil Mickelson’s injured wrist can withstand hacking balls out of the deep grass here
  • Whether Tiger Woods can overcome his recent dip in form to win his 13th Major, and his third US Open
  • Whether Colin Montgomerie – minus his loyal caddie Alastair McLean – can bounce back from his disappointment at Winged Foot last year
  • Whether the par-3 eight hole here – which measures 288 yards on the card – will actually play 300 if they move the flag back
  • How Ernie Els – the last man to win the US Open here in 1994 – will cope with his return… and his game
  • How the young Brits – Rose, Casey, Donald, Doughtery – will do

It’s all shaping up to be a sensational tournament  – and the best place to keep in touch with what’s going on is right here.
