June 11 Harrington

The Open Champion, Padraig Harrington missed the BMW PGA Championship last month because he believes he plays his best during his third consecutive week of playing, and if he had played at Wentworth then the US Open would have been his fourth rather than third event.

“Having won a major championship, you want to win another won,” he said, “you want to go out and win more. And so, that’s what all my focus this year has been on. But the biggest thing about having won one is I know if I can get myself into a position to win on Sunday, then I will have the inner belief I can win it. That’s what’s important.”

Last week in Memphis, Harrington finished one shot out of a playoff, so it would seem his game is coming to the boil at just the right moment. What’s more, in his 10 previous US Opens, he has had three top-10 finishes, the most recent of which was his 5th place finish at Winged Foot two years ago. Harrington plays with last year’s champion, Angel Cabrera and Davis Love III in the 1.36 p.m. (9.36 p.m. UK time) tee off time.
