June 5 US Open

Darren Clarke failed to qualify for a Major Championship for the first time in 10 years after failing to book his place at Oakmont following a disappointing three-over par total at US Open Sectional Qualifying at Walton Heath.

The Irishman opened with a 75 and could only follow that up with a level-par 72 at the Surrey Course, while fellow Ryder Cup star Paul McGinley will also be absent from the year’s second Major after firing two rounds of 71.

But there was good news for Englishman Nick Dougherty, who finished as the top qualifier on eight-under-par with Darren Fichardt and Peter Hanson.

The remaining six US Open spots were taken by Christian Cevaer, Marcus Fraser, Graeme McDowell, Sam Walker, Soren Kjeldsen and Miguel Rodriguez.
