Justin Rose is back in majors contention again. The talented young Englishman has booked his US Masters ticket at Augusta on April 5-8 after an impressive start to the season saw him clamber into the top 50 in the world rankings to secure a coveted place in the season’s first major championship.

It’s another step in the right direction for Rose, now looking to shrug aside a niggling injury which sidelined him for last week’s World Championship event in Florida.

Rose made his mark at Augusta in 2004 when he led the way at the halfway stage only to fall apart at the weekend. He will take encouragement from his bright opening three years ago and, who knows, if he can repeat that early form – and keep his nerves under control – he could be in contention for the Green Jacket next week.

A total of 107 players, with 97 expected to participate, have been invited to line-up at Augusta and among the field are five amateurs and 18 debutants.

Besides Rose, the following players also qualified by finishing in the top 50 in the world rankings: Aaron Baddeley (Australia), Bart Bryant, Paul Goydos, Charles Howell III and John Rollins (all USA). Baddeley, Howell and Rollins, plus veteran Mark Calcavecchia, also qualified by finishing among the 10 leaders in the PGA Tour money list published during the week before the Masters.
