This season’s prestigious Ladies English Open tournament at Chart Hills, Kent, has been brought forward 24 hours…to accommodate the Tour de France!

The world’s most famous cycle race passes through nearby Kent countryside on Sunday July 8 – the scheduled final round of the Ladies Open – and officials at Chart Hills didn’t want sports fans to miss out on any of the action.

Explained Chart Hills general manager Rod Park: “The Ladies English Open will now take place from Thursday July 5 to Saturday July 7. There may well have been a huge number of golf fans who would have liked to catch the Tour – and cycling fans who fancied watching a bit of golf.

“These things are planned so far in advance that some times there is a risk of two events discovering a clash when everything has been put in place. There seemed no point in asking people to make a decision if we could move the event forward 24 hours and that’s what we have done.

“It also helps logistically as the police do not have to deal with two large volumes of traffic going in different directions. This switch will benefit everybody from the local community to visiting sports fans,” he added.
