May3 New par 3 Nailcote

Players in this year’s British Par-3 championship will face a new challenge – the country’s very own “17th at Sawgrass”.

The nine-hole, par-3 ‘Cromwell’ golf course at the Nailcote Hall hotel, near Berkswell, is undergoing a major upgrade of its final hole.

Modeled on the world-famous ‘island green’ of the 17th at Sawgrass in Florida, the Nailcote version will have the expanded 9th green virtually surrounded by water.

The ingenious layout is bound to provide high drama when players are battling it out for victory at the final hole in the Championship – and in the Celeb-Am event which takes place the following day.

And all the excitement at the 9th is due to be one of the highlights of the extensive televised coverage of this year’s event being given by Sky Sports and the other local and national media.

Also sure to draw the crowds is the fact that this year’s championship will see a record number of over 30 top European Tour players joining with past Ryder Cup stars and other leading professionals all keen on winning a share of the £25,000 prize money on offer.  In fact, apart from the warm-up to the US Masters in Augusta, Nailcote is the only venue in the world to hold a par 3 Championship for professional players.  And this year, for the first time, as is the case with the Dunhill Cup, keen amateur golfers will be able to partner a world-class professional player in the demanding 36 hole tournament.
