Christmas is coming early at top Hertfordsshire golf club Bushey Hall where experienced and potential golfers are all invited to participate in an ‘open day with a difference.’
The event, on December 4, will include free tuition from the club’s resident pro, free golf, and discounted offers in the pro shop. But what makes it a little different to previous open days at the club is the presence of Gail Smirthwaite.
She is a life/confidence coach and will be providing information on how to improve the mental aspect of the game.
Smirthwaite is a trainer for the Professional Golf Association on its Continuous Professional Development Programme and also writes a monthly page for Lady Golfer magazine on mind issues.
She aims to help ensure golfers are not only able to approach a round in the right frame of mind but also remain focused throughout and overcome any obstacles in their way.
Club members who have experienced her methods believe other club golfers should take advantage of the upcoming free open day.
Active lady member Jan Lloyd said: “We are eagerly anticipating the chance to work with a golf psychologist as part of our yearly club membership fee.
“It is great that the skills Gail is teaching are becoming available to club golfers. Previously they’ve been the exclusive preserve of the professionals and we are delighted she has chosen Bushey Hall.”
Smirthwaite said: “For more than five years I’ve been working with all standards of golfer ranging from dedicated professionals to the occasional weekend warriors and know how many people’s games can benefit from confidence coaching.
“The problem to date is that while people are offering the service it has never been properly accessible to golfers and hopefully this will put that right.”
Smirthwaite added: “It’s all about making sure people are in the right frame of mind.
“The coaching can also benefit people off the course through becoming more confident in various situations and because of this we’ve already had interest from a number of companies interested in corporate days.”
