Humble College Pines golf course in Worksop, Notts, may not be the best course in Britain but when it comes to year-round playability it’s simply in a class its own.

College Pines, you see, just never closes: it’s always open…with the solitary and perfectly understandable exception of a certain December 25 of course. It’s not known as “the home of all-year round golf” for nothing.

So it may well be raining cats and dogs – and let’s face it, that’s precisely what it’s been doing a lot of lately – but if you’re a hardy golfer you’re guaranteed to experience your golfing ‘fix’ at the 13-year-old heathland layout.

Announced College Pines Director of Golf Charles Snell proudly: “Regardless of what the weather is doing, we’re guaranteed to be open. We’ve been here 13 years now and during that time we haven’t closed on a single day.

“We always use the normal tees and greens too…we just don’t do temps,” he stressed.

College Pines golfers are clearly, in the immortal words of Liam Gallagher, ‘mad for it.’ Added Charles, whose father David designed and in fact runs and owns the course: “When we had some snowfall several golfers still turned up to play so we ended up sweeping as much snow off the course as possible, enabling them to play.”

So if you’re really desperate to play a few holes, whatever the weather and circumstances, you know where to head for…
