EXPLAINED: How we test golf equipment

All the putters listed below are available in 33, 34 or 35-inch shafts.

Odyssey Eleven putters

You probably haven’t heard too much about forward CG putters before. That’s because they’re a relatively new idea (Cleveland used it in their Frontline putters a couple of years ago) that go some way to explaining why golfers have loved the feel and launch of narrow blade putters for decades.

Odyssey’s relentless R&D process has recently thrown up measurable results about why forward CG putters work (blades have forward CGs, wider body MOI style putters usually have deeper CGs), and the benefit they bring to the party.

Odyssey are saying the Eleven is their first high MOI putter, and it’s been designed to deliberately attack a forward centre of gravity (CG). With a CG a quarter of an inch further forwards (and closer to the face) than other leading mallets, the Eleven creates better speed and spin control consistency on off-centre hits, as well as a tighter dispersion ellipse in terms of accuracy and distance control. That means golfers will naturally improve their putting stats on the dancefloor.

Odyssey say they’ve achieved this unusual high MOI/forward CG set up by creating the Eleven as a multi-material, Meccano set of a putter.

The head has a 260g steel chassis, with a super light 19g TPU sole insert to remove inefficient mass from the centre of the body.

Strategically positioned aluminium and steel weights create a putter that combines the feel and launch of a blade with the forgiveness of a mallet or MOI model. And to ensure great feel and feedback, each Eleven also comes decked out with the brand’s legendary White Hot face insert and a red Stroke Lab shaft.

Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K models

Blade and forgiveness are two words never uttered in the same sentence. Golfers who prefer the styling of the former have just accepted it means sacrificing forgiveness for a putter that better suits their eye.

An exploded view of the Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K putter.

But forgiving putters are on the up; Odyssey say 65% of the models they sell now fall into the MOI and mallet categories.

So in a bid to offer golfers who love blades the same sort of forgiveness levels as a mallet, Odyssey have come up with the Tri-Hot; a blade that could out-perform a mallet, with a classic head shape tour players would love.

All Tri-Hot variants have a head weight of 360 grammes and a full shaft.

Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K One putter

RRP £379 | VIEW OFFER

The archetypal toe-and-heel-weighted blade putter. See the One’s slightly stubbier body and flowing curved back bumpers as an alternative to Ping’s Anser or Scotty Cameron’s Newport and you really won’t go too far wrong. A cranked neck gives moderate levels of toe hang, so the model is a good fit for slight arc strokes.

Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K Two putter

RRP £379 | VIEW OFFER

Fuller, less sloping back bumpers and a slightly longer blade Length: give a straighter edged look at address. We like the contrast in colours between the darker front and lighter back section, which highlights alignment at address. A cranked neck gives moderate levels of toe hang, so the model is a good fit for slight arc strokes.

Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K Three putter

RRP £379 | VIEW OFFER

Perfect for those who remember the flowing back shape of a Ping Zing putter.

A slant neck gives significant levels of toe hang, so the Three is an excellent fit for golfers with strong arc strokes and players who like to feel the sensation of releasing the putter through impact.

Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K Double Wide putter

RRP £379.99 | VIEW OFFER

The name comes from the head being almost twice as wide as a traditional blade head. Double wide putters have grown significantly in popularity over the last five years as their body size dictates offering slightly more stability and forgiveness than you get with a traditional narrow body blade.

Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K Triple Wide putter

RRP £379 | VIEW OFFER

A brand-new idea from Odyssey for 2022. Thanks to being significantly wider than a traditional blade, the body boasts additional stability and forgiveness. The size and straight edges can be a real bonus for golfers who love blades but aren’t quite ready to go full-on narrow body.

Odyssey White Hot OG putters

“Legendary then, iconic now,” is how Odyssey are promoting their new line of White Hot OG putters, two decades after the famous face and renowned 2-Ball putters first found fame.

There have been dozens of 2-Ball variations over the years, and it’s still hugely popular. The likes of Jon Rahm, Georgia Hall and Xander Schauffele use White Hot putters.

But try as hard as they have to move consumers, pros and retailers into new face technology, golfers still yearned for a return to the soft but firm feel of the beloved White Hot insert.

Odyssey even admit that more than half the putters they create for tour players today still feature this insert.

Now, despite racking up the most worldwide wins and most putters in play at every Major in 2021, Odyssey decided to turn back the  clock in a bid to increase their dominance, bringing back the most popular putter face  insert of all-time in six ultra-premium looking White Hot OG putter heads.

The new range, with its rich silver PVD finish and finely milled surfaces, offers a putter to suit every golfer – the #1 blade, #1WS (wide-soled) blade, the smaller mallet #5, the fanged #7, classic 2-Ball and the wider mallet Rossie. Both the Rossie and 7 are available in either double bend face-balanced models or with slant necks and a degree of toe hang.

The original White Hot was made from the same urethane as the cover on Callaway’s Rule 35 golf ball. Whereas soft inserts are usually slow, with a soft feel and dead sound, the two-part White Hot insert combined the feel of a softer model with the performance off a firmer face and returns in the new model.

Odyssey Toulon 2022 putters

Sean Toulon is a name you might well recognise, but not quite be able to place. He spent 15 years at TaylorMade, working on everything from R7 drivers right the way through to the original Spider putter.

Back in 2015 he left TaylorMade, thinking he was going to retire. But within six days his sons, Sam and Joe, had talked him into setting up a premium milled putter business, Toulon Design.

It was so successful that within a couple of years it had been bought by Callaway, who then made Toulon Snr. General Manager at Odyssey before embedding his premium putters at the very top of their range. And for 2022, there’s a raft of stunning new models.

The feature that set Toulon’s original putter designs apart from the competition was his Deep Diamond Mill face pattern, which tunes sound (which the human brain equates to feel) to the levels decent golfers love.

For 2022, the pattern has had an overhaul and it now extends the full length of the face; the central groove within each diamond is also bigger to increase friction at impact.

When you’re focusing on producing the most beautiful putters in the world, every last detail needs to be considered. To create a premium look on the rack and to inspire confidence behind the ball, Toulon has developed a new stealthy midnight black finish. He says it’s the finish tour pros worldwide favour, and he loves how the colour showcases the intricate milling details of every head.

Previous Toulon putters have had changeable sole panels to increase or lower head weight, so golfers could dial in the feel and launch they desire. However, the new models have mass split between two front weights (which come in 5g-20g in 5g increments).

The idea boosts MOI as mass is split between the toe and heel, but the arrangement also follows the modern trend for having more weight positioned forward in a putter head, which gives a more pleasing impact sound and feel sensation.

No Odyssey or Toulon Design putter would now be complete without the steel and graphite Stroke Lab shaft. Jon Rahm uses one (a red Stroke Lab shaft, not the Emerald Black-coloured model that’s in Toulon’s new putters), as do many Odyssey and Toulon players on tour.

The multi-material design has been refined for 2022 with a shorter and stiffer steel tip section to further improve tempo and stroke consistency.

Odyssey Toulon San Diego putter

RRP £379.00 | VIEW OFFER
Head weight: 360g | Hosel: Plumber’s neck (H1)

The San Diego has a slightly straighter edge look (than the Madison), with tighter corners on the back edge of the head. A cranked neck gives moderate to strong levels of toe hang, making it a good fit for slight and stronger arc strokes.

Odyssey Toulon Madison putter

RRP £379.00 | VIEW OFFER
Head weight: 360g | Hosel: Plumber’s neck (H1)

The Madison is the archetypal toe-and-heel-weighted blade putter. The plumber’s neck gives reasonably strong levels of toe hang, so the model is a good fit for slight and more stronger arc strokes.

Odyssey Toulon Chicago putter

RRP £379.00 | VIEW OFFER
Head weight: 360g | Hosel: Double bend

Double-wide putters have really grown in popularity over the last five years, their body size offering slightly more stability and forgiveness than a traditional narrow body blade.

Odyssey Toulon Atlanta putter

RRP £379.00 | VIEW OFFER
Head weight: 360g | Hosel: H4.5 (slant neck)

A cracking mid-mallet with a square back for those wanting a classic putter shape, but some straighter lines to aid alignment. The Atlanta’s slant neck gives moderate to strong levels of toe hang, so it will be a good fit for slight and stronger arc players.

Odyssey Toulon Memphis putter

RRP £379.00 | VIEW OFFER
Head weight: 365g | Hosel: Double bend

A traditional flowing, round-back mallet which, thanks to a double bend Hosel, is face balanced.  The 10-15% bigger head (than the previous model) is great for straighter strokes and golfers who like a longer sightline for alignment and consistency.

Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas putter

RRP £379.00 | VIEW OFFER
Head weight: 365g | Hosel: Double bend (DB) or H4.5 (slant neck)

Based on Odyssey’s iconic #7 fanged putter, the Las Vegas is available with either a double bend or slant neck Hosel, which dramatically affects the amount of toe hang, so ensure you make the right choice for your stroke.

Odyssey Toulon Daytona putter

RRP £379.00 | VIEW OFFER
Head weight: 365g | Hosel: Double bend

An all-new model for 2022  and a putter that’s already won on tour in the hands of Danny Willett. A bold full-Length: alignment stripe across the crown is great at highlighting where you’re aiming when the putter is behind a Triple Track ball.

Odyssey Toulon Le Mans putter

RRP £379 | VIEW OFFER
Head weight: 365g | Hosel: Double bend

Putter fans will note that the new Le Mans is very similar in appearance to Odyssey’s new Eleven putter, though this head is CNC milled, not cast. We love the head’s straight, angular lines, which focus the eye naturally on the impact zone.
