LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok: Tee times and groups

Published:

Tee times and groups for LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok, as the rebel series makes its debut in Asia.

The LIV Golf Series heads to Stonehill in Bangkok for its sixth event, where world ranking points look set to be on the line for the first time following LIV’s “strategic alliance” with the little-known MENA Tour (read the full story here).

Cameron Smith will seek his second successive victory and Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC will be going for their fifth consecutive team victory as the series visits the new course in Thailand’s Pathum Thani province.

With three events to play in LIV’s 2022 schedule, Dustin Johnson holds a big lead in the individual standings having finished inside the top-10 at every event to date.

Dustin Johnson poses with the trophy after winning the LIV Golf Invitational Boston.

There will not be any debutants in Thailand, but Hideto Tanihara of Japan replaces Spain’s David Puig, who made his professional debut last time out.

Five LIV events have been played so far, starting at Centurion Club near London in June, before heading to Pumpkin Ridge in Portland, Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, The International in Boston and, most recently, Rich Harvest Farms in Chicago.

Charl Schwartzel won the opening event, with fellow South African Branden Grace taking the title in Portland. Henrik Stenson won on his debut in New Jersey before DJ lifted his first LIV title in Boston and Cam Smith won on his second start in Chicago.

Once again the players are competing for a $4m first prize in Bangkok, with an overall purse of $25m up for grabs.

And the 48 players will form 12 four-man teams, with a $5m prize pot shared between the top three at this week’s event. Stinger GC, made up of Louis Oosthuizen, Schwartzel, Grace, and Henni du Plessis, won the first event, with 4 Aces GC, consisting of Johnson, Patrick Reed, Talor Gooch, and Pat Perez, taking the honours in the last four tournaments.

LIV Golf’s format means every player will be on the course at the same time with groups heading out in threes and a shotgun start in place. Players are drawn together for the opening round before being grouped based on their positions on the leaderboard for rounds two and three.

Unlike traditional golf tournaments, which are played over 72 holes (four rounds), LIV events are only played over 54 holes (three rounds), hence the name LIV, which is roman numerals for 54. They are still strokeplay events.
