Old Head Golf Club

What we say

The most magnificent location with some great holes mixed in with some indifferent ones. The design of the course is good, given the difficult site. Amazingly stunning location. Breathtaking views. And the golf course is excellent as well. A truly ‘must play’. Some magnificent holes.

Old Head has some of the most breathtaking scenery on any golf course in the world. It is built on a peninsula and uses the contours of the land to perfection. The course itself is also top quality, while the whole experience is totally enjoyable - just as it should be, bearing in mind the size of the green fee and the fact it does not see to much 'traffic'. Without a doubt, a must-play course. You will be blown away (probably literally) by the 4th hole. It is an excellent par 4 with stunning views from the green.

Old Head Golf Club is all about location: well, nearly anyway. Imagine a small circular island that is lifted out of the Atlantic Ocean on the shoulders of 200ft cliffs. Only this is not quite an island - it's attached to the mainland by a narrow thread wide enough for a small road and some tufts of grass. Old Head Golf Club drops out of Ireland like a landing wheel on the under carriage of an aircraft and it's impossible to believe that this unique parcel of land houses a full 18 exhilaratingly spectacular holes. But it does...

The Top 100 Golf Courses in Britain and Ireland

Old Head Golf Club is built on a 220-acre diamond of land, jutting out over two miles into the Atlantic Ocean. The promontory is almost an island with numerous caves running beneath your feet as you play the golf course. The par 72 layout comprises five par 5s, five rar 3s and eight par 4s stretching to over 7,200 yards from the tips, with a minimum of six tees per hole. Nine holes play along the cliff tops though all 18 holes provide stunning ocean views.

Stay & Play: For the start of the new season - the course re-opens in late April - there will be on-site accommodation available in the form of 15 suites.
