La Manga North Golf Club

What we say

The course that receives the most traffic at La Manga Club is the North, a friendlier 6,328 yards (to the South’s 7,000+) that begins with what feels like an intimidating drive between tall trees from an elevated tee. In fact, once you walk down on to the fairway you realise there is loads of room and the biggest test on this opener is not three putting over the ‘step’ in the green.

You then cross under the road to play a nice par 3 that is just a flick with a wedge – but with four tiers in a green that slopes distinctly left to right, it is a sneaky bogey waiting to happen. The early variety and challenge continues with a par 5 that will infuriate big hitters with a dry ditch across the fairway and then one of the nicest holes of the 54 at LMC. It is a gorgeous par 3 to an ‘infinity’ green seemingly floating in the air with the mountains beyond.

The first of the big carries over a ditch follows on the next but now we are really into the rhythm of the North and the rest of the front nine is terrific. The last five are a super finish with the 14th a fiddly test between lake and ditch that will again infuriate longer hitters whose advantage is negated. So everyone faces an exacting approach to a green with a slim entrance and OB to the left.

But after the lengthy walk back over the road, bombers can slate their frustrations on the fine, long 15th, but the highlight awaits at the 18th, a stellar conclusion demanding you clear the ditch from a spot alongside the first-floor clubhouse windows and try to find the tiered green in front of the hotel.

Shorter and more strategic than the South, the La Manga North Golf Club North makes good use of the ravines that eat into the fairways to provide a tough tactical test. Greens have recently been refurbished to USGA spec. The North is more undulating than the South, but a lot flatter than the treelined West golf course.

This is great course for all handicaps. The course is in great condition all year round, with good faciliteis. This is the best of the 3 courses at La Manga but is expensive if you arent staying with the complex of La Manga.
