Set on the banks of the Firth of Forth a wedge away from Muirfield, The Renaissance is Tom Doak’s first design in Scotland; and it’s a cracker. Very little earth was moved in the construction of the course so that the design naturally uses the original dune contours, dotted with stands of windswept trees. On the back nine several greens are just yards away from the sea, and these are arguably the best holes – the stretch from 10 to 13 right along the shoreline are fabulous.
