What we say
The par 71 Dunston course is a great challenge for players of all standards, wending through the beautiful wooded parkland estate. Dunston Hall's course is enjoyable for all golfers.
The Dunston course makes the most of its superb location. Against the backdrop of this magnificent hotel mansion, the superbly architected course takes in the estate's natural features. The undulating fairways stretch through the wooded parkland, while lakes and strategically placed bunkers are a feature on many holes. But good shots are rewarded and a round here will be enjoyed by all standards of player.

I went as a group of 8 in September 2011 for the second year running, due to some issues about the course the year before. I have to say those issues were well and truly rectified. The course was in very good condition with the greens running true and the fairways in very good condition. There are some very testing holes on the course including the 16th with the shot onto the green over the lake causing many of our guys some problems. Overall we had a very good three days stay and were looked after very well by all the staff there who made us feel very welcome.
I played the Neil Coles designed course in October 2008 after a couple of weeks of torrential rain and the course was pretty wet. Many of the bunkers were out of play, but at least the greenstaff were working on them. A tournament on the main course was taking place and that one had obviously been prepared to a much higher standard. Nevertheless, we did get a discount on our greenfees and during the round we saw only three other groups on the course, so we were able to take our time and enjoy the round. We simply loved the course. Not particularly long, but quite interesting and the tees and greens were very good. Next time I'd like to play the main course as I suspect that it will be prepared better and will be a stiffer test of golf. Just beware of the cost of food and drink in the bar. £7.50 for a sandwich is just too steep. Maybe they ought to take 2Fore1 on food as well.
