Edzell Golf Club

What we say

If you’re seeking a game in peaceful, tranquil surroundings far from the madding crowds, this is the place. Edzell is an exquisite heathland/parkland combo plotted amidst 128 acres in the foothills of the Angus Glens and thoughtfully re-designed by James Braid in the mid-1930s.

A wonderfully peaceful setting in the foothills of the Angus Glens, this is a great heathland course with a gentle par-4 opener before you play the ferocious 2nd, where you drive blind over a marker post and then play your approach (again blind) over a grassy bunker. After that things settle down a bit – but watch out for the great par-3 14th.

Originally designed in 1895, Edzell Golf Club has had barely any changes aside from amendments made by the legendary architect James Braid. Described by Peter Allis as a hidden gem, Edzell is located in the foothills of the Grampians.

At just over 6,400 yards it offers a fair test to all golfers. The 18-hole Old Course is complimented by the West Water nine-hole course, opened in 2001.

The West Water course is primarily a parkland course with tree-lined fairways.

I found the course challenging, extremely well maintained, with many interesting quirks to make you think out the necessary shots. The time flew by and the round was over all too soon. This was good as it poured with rain for virtually all the time.
