Newton Stewart Golf Club

What we say

This shortish golf course has existed in various guises since 1896, but the current layout makes excellent use of the rolling parkland and ubiquitous gorse to set up an enjoyable if slightly gentle golfing challenge.

The golf course is on two levels, but at all points affords super views of the Galloway Hills and Solway Firth.

  • 3 out of 5 The weather didn't help

It is hard to write an accurate report for this course for a number of reasons. Although we arrived early for our 2 ball we were dealt with promptly by one of the members and then set off behind 2 3 balls. The first two fairways were in goo condition, but once we turned up the hill to the third there was considerable amounts of cut grass lying on the fairways and we believe we lost two balls among this grass somewhere. By the 9th the rain had arrived and by the 12th we had had enough. We later found out the grass problem was due to broken machinery and have been offered a complimentary round next time we are in the area. The setting is beautiful, the people helpful and friendly and the course a challenge especially if you don't drive straight, we just visited on a bad day.

  • 4 out of 5 Hilly but nice with it

This course has gentle start but it is far from easy. Lots of changes in elevation make clubbing difficult. In very good condition one of the best in SW Scotland from that point of view.
