What we say
A great value-for-money course in the Scottish Borders, Galashiels Golf Club provides an enjoyable round of golf for the mid to high-handicappers.
It may only be a nine-hole course but separate tees for the front and back nine make for a nice variety on a hilly course - there are some steep climbs to a few tees and greens - with undulating fairways and manicured, true greens.
Players of all abilities will enjoy the short, downhill 288-yard par-4 2nd that opens with a blind tee shot. Those who are feeling brave can aim straight and go for the green, but beware the out of bounds down the left and right sides and the long, thick rough behind the green looking to ensnare any greedy golfers. This seemingly simple hole has the potential to turn a birdie chance from the tee into a double bogey.
As Secretary of the Galashiels Golf Club may I invite you to come and play our new 9 hole golf course commencing from April 4th 2009. We have downsized and over the next few years we hope to make some radical changes to the new layout.
Here you will find the information you require to spend a day golfing on a challenging course with some beautiful scenery, overlooking the historic Border Town of Galashiels.
The course was designed by James Braid who also designed Carnoustie and Gleneagles amongst many other courses. You will be sure of a friendly welcome as we are very happy to see visitors at our golf course.
We are centrally situated in the Borders being only 30 miles from Edinburgh and 40 miles from the East coast and all the border towns are within 25 miles for anyone wanting to include sight seeing in their visit. Three miles from Gala is the historic stately home of the late Sir Walter Scott the famous novelist and Melrose Abbey is only just one mile further.
Edinburgh of course is thirty miles north on the A7 and is also steeped in history.
