Herbert Fowler designed the Blue over flatter land than the better Red, but gave golfers an immediate shock – the 1st is a par 3 next to the clubhouse with little in the way of a bailout to the right. The closing stretch is superb, a series of exacting two shotters which compensate for the straightforward par 5s. The bunkering is astute and the stream which crosses many fairways is often a headache.
