Some on the panel felt Troon was fortunate to withstand the claims of North Berwick and Castle Stuart and hang onto its top-10 status. But that it did, with others hailing the holes around the turn – where the Postage Stamp is the most famous – among the dunes, gorse and alongside the railway line.
