I LOVE… ARCHERFIELD By Catriona Matthew, Lothian-based Major champion.

The Fidra course is a really nice course for East Lothian as you have nine holes in the pine trees, which is really unusual for the area. It just makes it that bit different.
I especially like playing it in the winter as it gets that bit more shelter! The pine trees give it a lovely, different look to other courses in the area and when you drive it off line you have the interesting task of hitting off the pine needles. It’s almost like a North Carolina course. The 2nd is a reachable par 5 as long as the wind
isn’t hard and into you. So it’s a lovely risk-and-reward hole. The 9th hole, now there are some new bunkers in, is another favourite of mine. It’s a really tough test which I always enjoy. The last is also a nice climax, where you can go down the right or the left. So you have options about which way to play it and that always makes a hole  good fun. For new courses (also the Dirleton) they have matured very well – you’d
think they’d been there for many years.
