Haydock Park Golf Club

What we say

Founded in 1877, Haydock Park Golf Club is a well established James Braid-designed course situated near Haydock Park racecourse: it is a mature parkland course of just over 6,000 yards.

It is the home of one of the region's premier golf clubs, its tree-lined fairways and well bunkered greens make scoring well a real challenge. The course is always in excellent condition and is a fair test of golf for both high and low handicappers.

it isn't a very long course but there are quite a few challengeing holes were you may slip up into above par. especially the 4th, even though its stroke index 18, there is ob down the right, green surrounded by bunkers, and is one of the fastest greens on the course

It is a really fun course to play it wasnt too challenging but dont be fooled there are plenty of holes that can easy become double bogeys. The 6th has to be the signature hole an elevated tee shot onto a thin fairway with OB all the way down the right and trees all the way down the left and dont forget about the 2 fairway bunkers on the right and the 3 near the green, the green itself is the most challenging on the course but the most challenging hole has to be the par4 13th is tough slim fairway dogleg right into a small green with big mounds of long rough and bunkers dont forgrt to mention its 450 plus yards if you cant reach the dogleg which is about 300 yards to get on into requires a long iron or in some cases fairway woods to hit it 200 yARDS over big tall trees if you dont carry this then your in the woods if your too far your O.B so accuracy is needed. As for the par 3's there are 5 of them the longest being the 18th at nearly 200 yards its tough to make par and the smallest the 4th at about 115yards its only a pitching wedge but even though its stroke index 18 if your tee shot isnt straight your in trouble, water on the right and a lot greenside bunkers protect the green that slopes quite severly from front to back. As for the par 5's there are 3, the 3rd, 5th and 15th, all are quite challenging but the most difficult is probably the 5th off the the white tees its a blind tee shot up a hill that takes a 200 yard carry to reach the top of. if your a big hitter you might be able to reach this 530 yard par 5 in 2 if you hit a 300 yard drive you will have a 3 0r 4 iron or maybe even a 5 wood into the green depending on the conditions. the green is quite small but is downhill to the fairway and is protected by a big bunker on the right and a smaller one on the left so accuracy is a must. The closing hole to the front nine is a good hole a long par4 at 430 yards requirng a draw to get round the trees leaving a mid to long iron into an elevated green this is a small green and if you miss it you will do well to make par. As for the facilities there is a decent sized putting green, and a practice net, a practice ground with a practice green, and a fully stocked pro shop from chocolate bars to the new titleist scotty cameron and vokey wedges. The food is wonderful not to long to wait and it good quality if your around the area a trip to haydock park is highly reccommended, i liked it so much that i am now a member there.
