What we say
Water plays a big part everywhere on the International Course and the elevated tees on the par 3s sends shivers up the spine. The par 5s tend to be within range after a decent drive but usually involve a good spank across water. We found the Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course enjoyable - it just lacked that wow factor to warrant the huge green fees.
The London Club is the proud home of two quality 18-hole courses - the neighbouring Heritage is basically the members' golf course. Having said that, the International is a class act in its own right, though is generally considered more demure than its neighbour: its strengths are that it shows to all abilities of golfer plus the sheer enjoyment of the rare mix of an inland links style blended with the innovative designs of today.
Just be extra careful and wary of the potential precarious pin positions on the splendid par 3s and the brave - and risky - route at the signature 4th hole.
*Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman says: I’ve got to include this as it’s my home club. It’s a terrific venue with two great courses and I like them equally. I’m very excited we’re staging the Volvo Match Play Championship in October - I’ll make sure I’ve got a couple of days off to watch that.
