The Vale Resort (Lake Course)

What we say

The Vale Hotel, Golf and Spa Resort’s ‘The Lakes’ is nowhere near as long and intimidating as the neighbouring Wales National, but it’s probably more fun and enjoyable and you can see why the members love it to bits.

Unusually, the round starts with a downhill par 3 but it picks up after that with the signature hole being another short hole, but this time you’re firing at a Sawgrass-style green surrounded by water. There’s a quality finishing hole too, the green sitting beyond a pond and overlooked by mature trees as well as prying eyes in the hotel.

Your Reviews

  • 5 out of 5 Fantastic Course

    By Walesgolf

We were slightly early so we made use of the facilities. The putting and chipping greens were in great condition. We were greeted on the first tee by a friendly course marshal who gave us a couple of tips and told us how much we would enjoy the course. The course itself is quite long so I wouldn't envy anyone playing there on a windy day!! The greens were in brilliant condition and you could tell the green keepers worked hard to keep it like that. The water comes in to play on several holes so that gives you something to think about too. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our golf here and would definitely return soon.

  • 4.5 out of 5 Fantastic condition/Excellent course management needed.

From tees to greens this course is in fantastic condition for this time of year, the greens are excellent and the drainage is fantastic as it had been raining for two days before we got there and thought it might be a bit soggy but we couldn’t be so wrong. I would recommend this to every golfer of all abilities as it requires a lot of thought as there is a lot of water about. The staff at the resort are some of the friendliest people I have met and will do all they can to help you. A must play course, with the par 4, 12th with its island green a fantastic birdie opportunity.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Tough test for all abilities

Although shorter than The National course, this course is a mean test of golf comprising of both long and short holes. longest being the par 5, 14th at 558yds off the yellows and the shortest being the 13th at around 120 yds. Water comes into play on 9 holes with the 18th being a fantastic risk/reward hole dog legged par 5 with a large green that has water, front left and back of the green and OOB right.
