Black Friday Golf Driver Deals: Buying Guide
Black Friday sales can be a little tricky to navigate with a plethora of retailers all vying for your business as the holiday season approaches. To help keep you focussed we have suggested a few considerations to bear in mind so you come out the other end with a driver that will do you proud.
Budget
Just because items are plastered with sale banners and claims of huge discounts, it’s worth doing your due diligence and making sure the advertised savings appear genuine. It’s also important to set yourself a budget, just as you would when shopping at any other time of the year. Even with healthy savings, golf drivers are expensive pieces of equipment, so make sure you consider the cost, not just the savings.
Timing
This is perhaps one of the trickiest aspects of the Black Friday sales to get right, as when they’re gone -they’re gone! Discounts across the sales period are constantly fluctuating depending on which items are flying off the shelf and which ones are struggling to shift. In the same way as you might approach buying a flight, we suggest monitoring prices for a short period to give you an indication if they are likely to continue to drop or if they will remain constant until the stock is gone. The very best deals can often be found closer to the day itself, however, you do run the risk of your number one pick being sold out with this approach.
Custom Fitting
Often overlooked, but dialing in your optimal driver set-up through a custom fitting session will likely be of more benefit than the slight performance edge you hope to achieve by selecting one driver over another. This point is demonstrated by our Equipment Editor Simon Daddow, who lost 3.1 mph of ball speed overall compared to last year’s test, but still gained six yards of distance on average. That’s because he was hitting drives higher and with 700rpm less spin. So of course, ball speed is important, but finding your optimal set-up is key.
Type of Driver
There are three main types of drivers, so make sure you are looking within the category that best reflects your specific game requirements:
Low-spin drivers: These are typically aimed at high-swing-speed players who generate a lot of spin and therefore want a low-spinning head to help create optimal numbers.
Standard/forgiving drivers: These drivers aim to offer a great combination of distance and forgiveness, and therefore tend to have the widest appeal.
Draw drivers: As the name suggests, these draw-biased models are designed to help you hit a draw off the tee, or at least significantly reduce the slice that so many amateur golfers struggle with.
Cyber Monday
The Monday after Thanksgiving (27th) is dubbed ‘Cyber Monday’ and presents a bonus opportunity to bag yourself a bargain if you missed out on Black Friday. This year the best deals will run between Friday 24 November and Monday 27 November.

You can expect the most popular items to receive more modest discounts of 20-30%, and less popular items to receive heavier reductions of 70% plus.
