Wilson FG Tour M3

Irons Test 2014: Wilson FG Tour M3

Cost: £599 steel £699 graphite

Tech: The M3 iron has the look, feel and workability of a forged players’ iron, while delivering high levels of forgiveness.

What we said… JR: “I like the darker finish. Small head but the hitting area is large because the toe and heel areas are small. The black finish may help this appearance. The shaft felt light and I got a high trajectory which was a touch spinny, which meant it lost distance, but was consistent. Heavy head boosted awareness of it.” JT: “Feels really hot. Nice shape, minimal offset. Difficult to align. I’m not sold on the dark finish, would prefer silver. It was surprisingly easy to shape given the offset design.”

Pros: High forgiveness and flight with an element of workability.

Cons: Some may want less offset and easier alignment.
