What we say...

It is no surprise to see Ping at the winning end of a test again. Nevertheless credit must go to the Ping G15 fairway wood for maintaining the standards set by the hugely-popular G10.

Ping woods are known for their classic good looks and the G15 faiway wood is no different, scoring high marks across the board in the visual stakes. Pro Chris liked the way it sat square at address and was a fan of the head size while Kit liked the modern sole design.

That said the looks were the only thing George faulted it on, saying it was a little bland. He gave it top marks in every other category, though, especially liking its forgiveness off the deck. For him it was the easiest club to hit on test.

Ping say they have achieved this thanks to a slightly elongated head which has increased the MOI (resistance to twisting) by 23 per cent and an external sole weight pad to move the centre of gravity significantly further back and slightly lower.

George and Chris N raved about its performance from the rough while pro Chris and Kit excelled with it off the tee, proving it’s a terrific all-rounder.

Kit loved the cracking sound out the middle of the club and pro Chris was a fan of the solid feel and feedback from the face. The G15 fairway wood enjoyed solid distance stats and pro Chris loved the penetrating flight, which came as a slight surprise due to the shallower, elongated face.

The Ping G15 fairway wood was simply beaten to the ‘Best on Test’ award only by a club which performed sensationally in all three situations.

At Address
Our test pro loved the way the Ping G15 fairway wood sat square as you look down on it.

The G15 has been hugely popular over the past 18 months with game-improving amateurs and Tour pros alike. It is designed to be 23 per cent more forgiving than its predecessor, the G10, and also features a more elongated and low-profile head. A higher launch angle has also been achieved by the insertion of an external weight pad at the back of the sole which has moved the CG significantly further back and slightly lower. Ping woods also have a reputation for their classic good looks and the G15, which scored highly on TG's test, is no exception.

Firstly this is a cracking club. The looks were clean tidy and off the tee it flew miles compared to many other clubs. When you got it out the middle it gave a great sound, one of the best sounds on the market. Off the deck it was also superb still getting great distance although not as far as some other brands. with great forgiveness. Overall there is nothing much wrong with this club it is just whether others can better it.
