  • Pros

We found the V-Foil MOI to be a likeable, well-balanced putter with an effective straight-line alignment aid and a pleasingly crisp feel off the face.

  • Cons

Longer putts need rather more practice as the weight of the head makes judgement of pace less straightforward.

What we say...

This putter comes with all the trappings of a big-time club, including Tour endorsement and bags of technology (MacGregor claim its MOI – ‘moment of intertia’ or resistance to twisting – is the highest of any putter available). So far so good.

We found the V-Foil MOI to be a likeable, well-balanced putter with an effective straight-line alignment aid and a pleasingly crisp feel off the face.

What does take some getting used to, however, is it’s sheer size. We tested the M5K model, which is actually the smallest head of the four V-Foil MOI versions, and even this appeared to dwarf the ball. The bigger M14K broomhandle must look like a 460cc driver on the green.

The size does have performance benefits, it encourages a smooth back-and-through pendulum stroke, preventing you from ‘flicking’ at the ball and making short putts particularly uncomplicated. Longer putts need rather more practice as the weight of the head makes judgement of pace less straightforward.

If you like a big putter head (and we mean big) the V-Foil MOI could be for you. Cumbersome or ultra-stable according to taste

I loved the look of this putter when it was first released and was very glad when I found one cheap online.  A centre shafted club, it felt great when you hit it in the centre of the face, but just a fraction off and the putt was killed.  Maybe this is why it became quite popular on tour for the good ball strikers.  Not sure if this is peculiar to the centre shafted model but although I really wanted to like this putter, I just couldn't trust it (or my stroke?).  The white sheepskin-lined head cover is a bit of a fetish item but even used as intended gets very dirty very fast.  ;-)

I lost all confidence in the greens, until i found this baby online for an excellent price. First day out i had my best putting round in recent memory. I love a nice and heavy putter as i think it gives you more control. However, whoever thought to make white head cover should be shot. Despite that this club is awesome.
