What we say...

Tech:

Designed for golfers who like a wide profile blade putter but don’t want the distraction of a deep milled pocket flange on the back of the head. Each head is precision milled from soft 11L17 carbon steel to heighten feedback, a deep milled face enhances feel.

Our verdict:

Piretti’s a name you might not of come across too much before, so if you’re out of the loop they’re a super high end boutique putter manufacturer in the USA. Putters are their game and they mill and hand craft each one in their own facility in the states. A number of tour players (Henrik Stenson being one) have had dalliances with their designs and as you’d expect they reckon they make the best putters in the world. The Matera 2 is a short stubby wider blade which just wreaks of quality craftsmanship. Looks and shape are subjective, but there’s no getting away from the Matera’s shorter blade length, which our test pro thought was a little more difficult to align squarely at the hole. Simon really liked the smaller simple head and single alignment line as it put focus directly on the ball. All three testers could agree though the feel and sound produced from the carbon steel head was superb.

Piretti Matera putter toe hang

Bottom line:

There aren’t too many golfers in the UK who’ll pay £350 for a putter, but if you’re one of the few we definitely recommend having a look at Piretti’s designs as they are beautiful. The Matera’s slight toe hang means its well suited to slight arc – straight putting strokes.
