What we say...

The TaylorMade Burner’s body is wider than most rescues and almost looks like a mini fairway wood, something that breeds lots of confidence.

The big weight plug in the sole couldn’t be any further from the face, which means that when you’re attacking a par 5 in two, or powering a tee shot on to a long par 3 surrounded by trouble, the clubhead stops shots from wandering as far off line as they might with a long iron.

TaylorMade believes sound is important when buying equipment, and somehow they’ve made the Burner sound almost like a modern driver. It certainly feels reassuring to hear shots fizz off the clubface with real venom – something most of us have never achieved consistently with a long iron.

One final, and quirky, feature of this golf club is its offset head, which TaylorMade technicians have slyly worked into the design. It is soft and subtle, doesn’t give the impression the club is for a hacker and really comes in handy when you need to keep a slice or fade in check.

Never been a believer in utility clubs until I bought the 19 degree version recently. I rarely use the three iron so decided to ditch that and the 5 wood to get an extra wedge in the bag. This club performs brilliantly off the fairway and out of the rough. Just oozes confidence at address and has definitely aided my game on par 4s and 5s. Even off centre hits fly long and stay on course. A real shot saver.
