Win a copy of John Feinstein’s brilliant ‘Feherty’ book

We’ve teamed up with Hachette Books to give away three copies of Feherty: The Remarkably Funny and Tragic Journey of Golf’s David Feherty, by John Feinstein.

David Feherty is one of the most complex and charismatic characters in golf. Only John Daly can rival him for enigmatic tales, which is what makes this new book from John Feinstein so genuinely funny and captivating.

Feherty is loaded with colorful and absurd anecdotes from his playing and TV career, like the time he celebrated a win at the Scottish Open with members of rock legends Led Zeppelin. He woke up two days later on the 16th green at Gleneagles, 50 miles away.

He compares his first marriage to a “hostage situation” and takes great delight in recalling the time he had a Caesar salad hurled at him by Colin Montgomerie for labeling him “Mrs Doubtfire”.

David Feherty is renowned for his wit and humour when commentating on golf.

Feherty is surprisingly transparent about his past and puts his trademark wit to one side when discussing his motives for joining LIV and his ongoing battle with drugs, drink and depression. He even reveals how Tom Watson once accompanied him to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, flying out on Jack Nicklaus’ plane.

His close relationships with players past and present are particularly touching, though it’s hard to get away from the deep sense of sadness that permeates throughout. Feinstein uses the second half of the book to delve into the darker side of his personal life; detailing his addictive habits; the unsuccessful stints in rehab; and the grief he still carries with him because of the drug-induced death of his son.

David Feherty broadcasting from the course for the Golf Channel at the 2018 Open at Carnoustie.

So much of what Feherty says paints a portrait of a man who uses humor to mask his own personal demons. It’s a sad realization, but there’s a lot about Feherty’s story which commands sympathy and a greater appreciation of his journey from mid-tier tour star to one of golf’s best-loved TV personalities.

To be in with a chance of winning a copy of the book, simply fill in the form below and hit enter. Or, if you can’t wait to find out if you’ve won to read it, you can buy Feherty here.
