Behind the scenes with Sergio Garcia

Getting time with the best players in the world isn’t always as easy as you may think, so when you are presented with the opportunity to work with Sergio Garcia at his home course you don’t turn it down.

Working with TaylorMade, who Garcia has been with for years, we were able to visit Castellon just outside Valencia and shoot a potential cover with the former Ryder Cup star.

The Spaniard has had a return to form in recent months, winning back-to-back titles and has also rocketed back into the world’s Top-20, so it was a good time to get him. Especially as he’ll be wielding the new TaylorMade products for 2012 – the R11S woods and the fabulously-named RocketBallz range.

Senior Equipment Editor Jon Greathead and photographer Howard Boylan got to the course in plenty of time to find a suitable backdrop. After a good hour of searching, Howard was happy that we had the best possible location and before too long the main man arrived.

After a quick chat with the boys, Garcia was ready to go and was easy to work with – he’s done this a million times, so he’s well-polished.

Howard asks him to go through a series of shots in order to get a good variety of pictures to hand over to the designers back in the office.

The whole shoot takes just about 30 minutes, and it seems to have gone well – so well, in fact, Sergio even buys us a glass of Rioja.
