Retief Goosen may be struggling to find his best form on the course at the moment but things are going well for the South African off course: he’s rapidly making a name for himself in the world of golf course design.

The ‘Goose’  has already designed four courses in South Africa and one in Korea but his best yet could be his latest project – the classy Carrigglass Manor Golf & Country Club in County Longford in Ireland.

Goosen has co-designed Carrigglass along with Jeff Howes and the par 72 parkland venue is so good that it is highly likely it will stage an Irish championship in 2010, just a couple of years after its scheduled opening next July.

“I’m very much involved on the course design front nowadays. It gives me a big thrill and I’m reallly excited about the Carrigglass project,” confirmed Goosen, the double US Open champion.

The course will sit impressively within one of Ireland’s last walled estates and will spectacularly feature some 200-year-old oak trees as well as a 100-room hotel set to open in December.

Make no mistake, the Carrigglass is going to be very special and is definitely one to look out for…
