John Morphet, Pure Leisure Group Chairman and one of the leading figures in the UK Leisure Industry, has designed and built the next generation of holiday home… and is investing £5m in a Cambridgeshire Golf Resort on which to build them.
As the credit crunch bites and recession takes hold, John is bucking the trend and investing in major leisure schemes across the UK, creating new jobs and providing holiday and leisure alternatives for people who do not want to be disadvantaged by the weakness of the pound and are now looking to holiday in the UK instead.
Foremost among these is the Tydd St Giles Golf and Leisure Estate near Wisbech in Cambridgeshire.
John commented “I am building the first phase, which is a gated community containing 35 stunning homes overlooking the lakes and the 205 acre golf course.
“I am fully aware that in today’s economy there is an ever increasing sector of the market place that is looking to invest in a second home that is partly for their own use and partly an investment.
“As a result, we have set up and are marketing our own in-house holiday rental programme, based on the highly successful operations at Tydd St. Giles’ sister resorts in the Lake District and Barbados.
“The weakness of the pound has made European golfing property extremely expensive and we have already seen a significant uplift at our other UK leisure estates.
“Such is my confidence that I am prepared to guarantee the first ten purchasers of detached homes a rental income of 10% per annum when placing their homes with the scheme. Add that to the £2 million invested in new fitness and leisure facilities, which will include a restaurant, leisure spa, high tech gymnasium as well as large swimming pool and beauty therapy suites, I believe we have a very strong offering.
“I was in the vanguard of the timber lodge industry but these homes are sure to surpass expectations. Fully furnished right down to curtains hung and flat screen TVs tuned in and with the same contemporary upside down style and large balconies that are a feature of the exclusive Caribbean homes at Royal Westmoreland, Barbados which is my flagship overseas development.”
