The new Nick Faldo course at Lough Erne Golf Resort, near Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, boasts “the most refreshing” halfway house in the world of golf.

The class halfway house act is breathtakingly situated behind the ninth green on the shores of The Faldo Course which opens in July.

In an inspired departure from the traditional log cabin style of refreshment facility favoured by other leading resorts, Lough Erne designers have produced a fully-equipped purpose-built restaurant offering the customary golfer’s fayre.

But the ingenious aspect of this new facility is that at 7pm every day, it is transformed into an exclusive seafood restaurant serving local catch and seating 34 diners who are transported from the main hotel by specially designed buggies and then returned when they’re ready.

During the day, the advance food ordering system means the snack is ready when golfers complete the first nine holes, thereby helping to maintain a steady pace of play on the course.

On the sixth hole, a rest hut with telephone has been provided with a direct line to The Halfway House. Once the visiting golfers have placed their order and played out on the ninth hole, they will find their snack (and other refreshments) waiting for them.

Lough Erne is destined to become one of the major golfing destinations in the world – its beauty and quality of challenge has already suggested it as a possible European Tour venue.

Faldo said: “I’ve played golf on every continent and can honestly say I am overwhelmed by the location and beauty of the Lough Erne Golf Resort.”

It is located in The Gateway to North West Ireland with easy flight connections from Belfast Dublin or Sligo, as well as ferry services from Holyhead or Stranraer to Dublin, Larne or Belfast.
