Liverpool’s flying Spanish winger, Albert Riera, is the latest celebrity golfer to enjoy a round at prestigious Majorcan course Son Gual.

For the £8m, 13-times-capped former Mallorca man it was a trip home, as he was born in the nearby town of Manacor, 28 years ago.

Riera’s Liverpool team-mates returned to training on Monday while the winger, whose season had been extended through playing for his country in the recent Confederations Cup, honed his golf skills before rejoining them with a promise to return to the golf course as soon as possible.

He is just the latest in a growing line of celebrities charmed by the beauty and playability of the Son Gual course, just outside Palma on the sunshine isle.

Former world number one tennis star Rafael Nadal played the course after his recent early exit from the French Open, while Jamie Redknapp, Andy Gray, Alan McInally and colleagues from Sky Sports held an end-of-season golf day at the club last month.
